Hearts with Haiti

In 1985, Michael Geilenfeld, a former brother with Mother Teresa’s Missionaries of Charity, started a small home for five boys to bring them off the streets and offer them a Christian family life. Twenty-four years later there are now three homes serving roughly 200 children through a variety of programs.  St. Joseph’s Home for Boys, the original home continues to serve youth in Port-au-Prince, despite being damaged beyond repair in the 2010 earthquake.  Wings of Hope, located in the mountains about Port-au-Prince, is a home for children with disabilities that is run by graduates of St. Joseph’s Home for Boys; it, too, was damaged beyond repair in the 2010 earthquake.  Trinity House, located in the coastal town of Jacmel, offers a safe home for youth, Trinity School for neighborhood children whose families cannot afford to pay for school, and has founded a bakery and coffee project.  Graduates from the original home now run one of the homes, Wings of Hope, a home for children with disabilities in the mountains above Port-au Prince.  Click here or on any of the highlighted links to learn more about Hearts with Haiti.
