Professor at Luther College
Wanda Deifelt is originally from Brazil, currently teaching at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. She is a Lutheran pastor and theologian who has worked with Christian Base Communities, lived in the Amazon area, and has strong involvement in grassroots movements (especially women’s rights). She taught at the Lutheran Seminary in Brazil prior to making Iowa her new home. Wanda is intrigued by how Lutheranism can speak to current challenges, drawing from feminist and liberation perspectives. She is also very active in ecumenical and interfaith issues. Wanda is a breast cancer survivor, and this motivated her to do research for a forthcoming book on Embodied Theology. She has led several study away courses to Brazil and Egypt, and will bring a group from Luther College to Turkey and Jordan next January. She is married and has two daughters.
